Do Not Pick {book of the week}

October 22, 2010 § Leave a comment

Anyone who has been a sibling, has raised siblings, or lived in the same neighborhood as a batch of siblings, knows that there is a natural concern about the favorite.  We all have a favorite something …. a favorite flavor of ice cream, a favorite sweater, a favorite hobby …. so it only stands to reason that there would be a favorite child.  Why wouldn’t there be?  This seems to be a very real underlying worry for parents as well, when they decide to expand their family past that one-child status ….. What if I have a favorite? Sounds pretty awful, doesn’t it?  A little taboo even.  And so that serving of guilt sets in, before the newest addition even arrives.  Which brings me to the somewhat sentimental Fun on Friday:  You’re All My Favorites by Sam McBratney.

Amazon.com: You’re All My Favorites 9780763624422: Sam McBratney, Anita Jeram: Books: Reviews, Prices & more.

With a simple and honest approach, this book gently addresses and calms these little fears, while providing parents with a comforting answer to the dreaded “Who’s Your Favorite?” question.  (And with adorable imagery and cuddly characters, one can’t help but feel a little warm and fuzzy themselves :)

Happy Reading!
